And to conclude this day of utter crappiness....

A 13 Part Valentines Day Rant By Me
  1. So, here's my beef with Valentine's Day, any holiday whose mascot is a fat naked man flying around shooting arrows at random people has GOT to be messed up.
  2. Plus, if you are single you feel like an utter freak. (Unless, like my mother, you didn't care about what guys thought about you when you were a teen. Good for you. I don't have that talent.)
  3. And when you feel like an utter freak, no amount of reassurance that you are a strong, confident, intelligent woman and that someday a wonderful man who looks stunningly like Topher Grace is going to sweep you off of your feet with a dozen roses and ask you to bear his children (after marriage of course) is going to make you feel better.
  4. Of course, along with those who fantasize about the above mentioned Topher-look-alike on your behalf, like to encourage you that this said man will be around next year.
  5. Yeah right.
  6. And how exactly did the massacre of two Martyrs named Valentine somehow translate into an "Oh Baby I love you" holiday?
  7. I know when I see two mangled men dying in anguish I think "Gee whiz! This would be a great time to give that special someone a tennis bracelet/chocolates/card/dozen roses/ (insert romantic gift here)
  8. Also, didn't all of you lovebirds just get a holiday to schmooze on New Years Eve at midnight?
  9. And with Valentines Day, why on earth is Sweetest's Day around? Is it to torment us (unhappy) singles?
  10. I think I would like it in Korea, honestly. On April 14th, if you recieve nothing for Valentine's Day, you go to this huge party with other singles and eat Jajangmyun, which is noodles in black sauce. The holiday is called Black Day.
  11. Why don't we have a single's day in the USA?
  12. Did I mention I was dumped on Valentine's day once? (The crapweasel!)
  13. Above all, my brother (who was too cute for me to get upset) asked me today "Why aren't you married? When are you getting married? Are there any boys who will marry you?" Unfortunately, haven't found one where the interest is mutual, even if I was eligible.

P.S. If I get one comment with the words "You are only 16" I will hurt someone!

And now, for something completely different...

And now, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Topher Grace and a Good Blog

I'm enjoying myself. I am absorbing myself into season 2 of That 70's Show. Nothing like Topher Grace to get your mind off of singleness. Mmmmmmmmmmm....Topher Grace.....*snaps out of it* What?
Anyway, I was looking through my comments that I got today and I found a great blog. This girl who calls herself solely "The Thinker" posted a comment and I checked out her blog, not expecting much, just wierd ramblings of another stupid random commentor. Her blog blew me away. She reminds me of myself, honestly, only a LOT more articulate and talented. She's 16, addicted to her iPod and blogging, and she had a post about Valentines Day. A positive one. Now, with my bitterness, I am probably going to "boo-hiss" all of the positive whatevers that come my way on Valentine's Day, but this post was amazing. You should definately check it out.
I will most definately have a snarky post later ( I already have it made up) but for now I must watch some more 70's.

I hate Valentine's Day

I suppose that once upon a time, when the trend was to wear white tights with glittery red hearts on them, eat cupcakes, and give little cards with such characters as Star Wars, SpongeBob, and Nemo, I liked the holiday. My friend Emily and I were discussing my bitterness for the day. She doesn't get my loathing for it. She says she supposes it has a little to do with the fact that she never wants to marry or date. She asked me, "What makes you hate it so much?"

It is a common misinterpretation that I hated V Day because I am bitter. And I am. But this is not the only reason. I hate seeing the ridiculous amounts of PDA in the halls at school anyday, so why on earth would I like to see a guy give a girl some chocolate, a cute little teddy bear saying "Be Mine", and a dozen roses, and then have them block my locker by sucking each others faces off. It annoys me.
Then of course you have my bitterness. I've been dumped on V Day the only year that I did have a significant other (thank you, MX). I've had stitches the day before V Day and had to hobble to my party. And I've had friends call me with "words of encouragement". I know they mean well, but the last thing I want to hear on this day of loathing is "Don't worry. There will be someone next year." I've waited for my next year. It's never come.
And finally, I think that it is a complete waste of a holiday. How on earth did two martyrs getting slaughtered turn into a day of love?
So I suppose I will close by quoting my Aunt Julie.
"Grab your friend, share a cupcake and celebrate Friendship Day in style!!"

This is in reference to Westerville City Schools, where my cousin, Andrew, is in 4th grade, referring to Valentines Day as "Friendship Day" this year.

My Second Christmas

Tonight, my moms side of the family came over for our celebration of Christmas. My Uncle Peter and Aunt Shana came over early, so my mom, Aunt Shana, and I ran over to Goodwill to see what good deals we could find. Aunt Shana found a really cute dress jacket but not much else. When we came home, after about ten minutes, my Aunt Faith, Uncle John, cousins, Andrew and Micah, and my grandparents arrived. We all chowed down on lasagna, breadsticks, salad, cupcakes, cheesecake, etc. Afterwards came the stream o' presents. At left, we see the special edition green iDog, which was given to me by my Aunt Faith, Uncle John, and cousins. This little guy has a special sound sensor that especially picks up music. He is meant for use with and iPod or MP3 player. He dances and flashes lights to the beat of the music. We have discovered that he especially enjoys showtunes. We have yet to realize what this means. Anyway, other gifts I got included two books of a new series from Uncle Peter and Aunt Shana, which I am assuming that Aunt Shana has a little more to do with than my uncle, seeing as she has the same love of literature that I do. My grandma got me some candles and my grandpa got me a gorgeous wooden chest. Good times indeed. Unfortunately, the scarf I made for my Aunt Faith turned out too wide and too short. So I just told her it was a blanket for her rat dog. I also made a scarf for the rat dog. All of the gifts were well recieved (Thank God). Most of the family is still here, so I should probably quit holing up in front of the computer and spend time with them.

Scarf Love

Scarves seemed to be a common theme at Christmas this year. My sister and I both got one. Please note the grand difference. I think Gabri got the short end of the stick here. Her scarf is hand-knitted (by me) with (in the words of Grandma Spongebob) "love in every stitch". The pink band with creme around it was supposed to be the center, but apparently I pulled a little too tight on the second half and it is a tad (read as: extremely) off center. But she seems to like it, so, hey, maybe it isn't so bad.

My scarf however, is a cashmere Burberry. Yes, Burberry. As in the normally $200-$4oo scarves that are imported from London. Before you go and ask my parents where your Christmas present is, there is no way that they bought me one for retail price. From what I understand, it was an Ebay deal, but since it is GENUINE (I have the registration tags and everything), who am I to complain?

And one more thing...

Almost forgot.....

I came home from church today/yesterday and found a big yellow bag on my table. My favoritest 4th cousin 28 times removed, Mistie, had asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told her I loved candles and green was my favorite color, followed closely by red and blue. She took the "I love candles" quite literally and bought me a jumbo bag of 25 tea candles, 8-10 medium sized candles and some green, blue, and red candle holders. At the moment, my bathroom looks like it is celebrating advent/Hannukah with all of the candles. PURTY!!!

THANKS MISTIE!!!

P.S. Deana- I premade that post so it said 10:03 because that was the time that I actually made it in real life. And at the moment it is 1:33 AM (I just finished wrapping presents) but it will say 10:33 AM because I want this post to go to the top of my page. Sorry. No time travel this year!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve has been awesome thus far. My siblings and I were permitted to open our stockings and one gift each tonight. I truly let my inner geek out. My stocking had the following in it-

  1. New earphones for my iPod (the old ones have reeeeeeeally taken a beating)
  2. Earphone covers in, like, ten colors
  3. Two glow-in-the-dark iPod skins
  4. A monogrammed notebook
  5. Sour mints
  6. A removable flash drive

I loved all of my gifts, but when I pulled out the flash drive I about went psychotic. It wasn't really that I was DYING to have a flash drive, it was more that I really, really, really needed one. Our computer has everything BUT a floppy drive. So moving papers was really a pain in the butt hindquarters. But now I can move the needed item with ease and convenience! :) I am such a fa-reak.

I was also trying to play up the "big girl" image and wait until tomorrow to open my gifts. But, by the time everyone else had opened theirs, I gave in. I got two very nice jean skirts, which I most definately needed.(My poor worn out ones are developing small, but noticable holes) They are ankle length and are very flattering (in my humble opinion). Beautious.

Gabri ended up loving her "Dorla" that I got her, which she opened tonight. She didn't open the scarf tonight (you know, the scarf that she "doesn't" know about). Michael opened his movie ("Cars") from Mom and Dad tonight, which he loved. He has a chef set under the tree from me.

Mom and Dad both opened their gifts from me tonight. I got Mom this really pretty tin sculpture (tin makes it sound junky, but it's thick tin and actually really pretty) called "A Mother's Love" that shows a mother and daughter hugging. She really liked it. I got Dad some Tommy Hilfiger cologne, which he says he likes.

For all of my aunts and uncles, Grandpa, and Great Grandma (this is a work-in-progress) I am making ornaments. I am taking green Christmas Tree Glass Balls and painting snowflakes on the front and "2006" on the back in glitter glue. They are turning out rather nice if I do say so myself.

I should probably also give credit to two other people (from church) who gave me some very nich gifts. Ron and Cherie got me a very nice liquid soap set. It's a boxed set with one bottle of soap and a pouf for each day of the week. The soap smells so good! I dunno if Ron reads the blog, but Cherie does so, THANK YOU CHERIE!!!

Sis.Dee also got me a nice gift. She got me two bottles of smoothie scented (Kiwi-Strawberry and Mixed Berry) lotion. It smells yummy. I am beginning to get suspicous about the scented stuff. ;)

Anywhoooooooo....this is a much to long post for Christmas Eve, so enjoy. In case I don't blog tomorrow- MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
