Reflections On Week 1.5 of Bible School

  • Some people are idiots.
  • Your happiness is dependent on ignoring said idiots.
  • You won't always agree with your professor's beliefs.
  • This isn't always a bad thing, nor is it always a heaven/hell issue.
  • Generally, unless asked to start a discussion, you should probably keep your mouth shut if you disagree with the professor. They have the ability to take you down with one scriptural quotation.
  • Curfew isn't always strictly enforced.
  • You should still probably obey curfew, because the first time you miss it will probably be the time that you get caught. (These are not from my experiences. Saints of my home church can breathe a sigh of relief. I'm  not going to be kicked out.)
  • You may not open half of your textbooks.
  • You can survive without doing laundry for up to two weeks. However, this is not recommended.
  • College currency can be described as follows: "If you drive me to the store to get a gallon of milk, I'll buy you Starbucks."
  • It's much easier to make friends if you have a food stockpile in your dorm.
  • Singing Disney songs and 50's tunes in the laundry room is terribly fun until someone walks in. Then it's hilarious.
  • Friendships here are much faster and different than any you've ever experienced in your life.
  • It's nice to have deep theological discussions with people of the same base belief.
  • You also will occasionally miss having theological discussions with atheists.
  • Sometimes the atheists are more civil in their arguments.
  • In some ways, this is like church camp.
  • In most ways, it is not.
  • These could easily be the best years of your life.

And who says that you aren't going to find an atheist or two at Bible College??? I told you before, not everyone that attends there believes what you believe.

I think you should go ahead and start a discussion with one of your profs on a subject you disagree. You'll make their day!
