One Year

It's been a year today.

I have known all month that today was coming up and have dreaded it. It's tough. For everyone. Tiffany was such a big part of everyone's life. She touched so many people. Last summer, I went to 3 funerals. Her's was the hardest. By far.

I'm honestly at a loss for what to say today. Maybe just that over the past year, I have though so much about her, that it hurts. There are so many things that maybe I wouldn't have noticed before, but that remind me of her. Dad and I were at Applebee's last week after my college visit and where we were sitting had pennants from both Brian Vickers and Jeff Gordon. My first thought was "Wow, Tiffany would have gone insane!". With all the new kids that we've been bringing in from the Sunday School outreach, she would have been so happy. She loved doing Sunday School and was devoted to the kids that she taught.

Even though I know, and everyone says this, that she has been healed in God's own way- she's not suffering anymore and isn't sick, she's not like the last time I ever saw her, hooked up to machines and things. She's not in pain anymore and never has to worry about that happening again. But it doesn't change the fact that she's gone and it doesn't make it any easier for me and I'm sure that other people feel that too.

At least not at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, I know that she's in a better place. Just, there are some times that that doesn't help a whole lot. Because they still aren't here and you miss them.

And you always will.

Can you tell I have no blog fodder?

I think I'm a contradictive Hippie without all of the pot.

Seriously.

If it weren't for the drugs and....um....other situations which will not be spoken of...I would soooo be a Hippie.

Also, I'm not a conspiracy theorist. Thus the contradiction. I don't buy into the mentality that our government has nothing to do except for rip us off. I don't think that the healthcare system is a sham, designed to take our money and make us think we are incompetant weaklings. Also, I have every intention of going corporate when I get my 5-year Master's degree from Kent State, hopefully.

So maybe I'm not such a Hippie. But wait, there's more!

I'm anti-war(although not radically. I just don't like it), I have fallen in love with the eco-friendly clothing style, and I love lava lamps!

Tye-dye, however, is tacky.

Woodstock music rocks, for the most part.

I have two versions of Green Tambourine on my iPod (Robert Goulet,as well as the original Lemon Pipers).

I shocked my dad by knowing who the Dead Kennedy's were. (A rock band. I learned this from Guitar Hero III)

Hmmmm.....

While we're on this subject, the article that got me thinking about this-ok, never mind...I can't find it anymore.

Kent State Visit

It is a very rare and surreal thing when you get to visit a place that you have done so much research about.

For those of you who have read this blog since, say March or April, know that for about two and a half months, I ate, slept, and breathed Kent State, May 4,1970, and the shootings there. Kent State is currently the top college on my list, and Dad and I took a trip there today for Academic Discovery day. The first thing we did was take the campus tour. Typically, you're supposed to download the self-guided stuff for an iPod, but I would like to think that I did a darn good job narrating the tour. At least around the quad, commons, and Blanket Hill. It was incredibly surreal, just knowing what had happened there, in great detail. I walked across the quad where the riot took place, went to the Victory Bell where Allison Krause stuck the flower in the guardsman's gun barrel and said "Flowers are better than bullets", and I saw the Pagoda where the guardsmen stood and fired at the students. It was incredibly cool, but at the same time, rather sentimental.
We walked everywhere looking for the above memorial, which I was dying to see. The rocks on top of the memorial, for those of you not brushed up on your Jewish traditions, are a symbol of respect for the dead. At least 2 of the students killed were Jewish (I'm not sure about the other 2). When we were walking, I also saw poles around squares of blacktop. I didn't realize until I got home that those were marking the spots where Sandra Scheuer, Jeffrey Miller, and William Schroeder had been shot and killed (Allison Krause died in the ambulance afterwards). Amazingly surreal.
Of course, as cool as that was (definitely the high point of my day), the rest of the day was pretty awesome, too. We checked out the residence halls, and the Fashion School (where I would be going, for Fashion Merchandising). We checked out the bookstore and I got a studly new zip-up hoodie. It was nice to be able to spend time with my dad for the day, too.
I'm ridiculously exhausted right now, and have a long night and day ahead of me. Tonight, I have to help Dawn paint her bathroom and tomorrow, Mistie and I are going to COSI. More pictures definitely to follow.

Eastoning

I love going shopping with my aunt. It is always quite the adventure. She's one of those artsy people so we go into all of the decorative, hippyish, artsy stores.

Note: my aunt is not a hippy. I am the hippyish one. Not artsy. It's a good blend.

Anyway, so we went into all of these stores that only we do. Anthropologie and Z Gallerie are musts. We also hit Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Restoration Hardware, and Bath & Body Works. And assorted clothing stores. These are depressing to go into because my aunt is so cute and tiny and I am so....err...curvy. She found some really cute stuff at The Limited. Unfortunately, that store stops one or two sizes short of me. She also got a really cute thing at Anthropologie. I say thing because I don't know what it is. Also at Anthropologie was a ginormous Terra Cotta pot circa 1900 Portugal. Only $7800. What a steal.

I spent my gift card at B&B. I got two body splashes (Honeysuckle and Pomegranate). I am so sad. They are doing away with the mini-splashes. I wanted to buy my mom one in "her scent" (Cherry Blossom) but of course they didn't have one.

We enjoyed a nice dessert at the Cheesecake Factory. I forwent my usual and got choclate peanut butter cookie dough. Soooo delicious. Aunt Faith stole some of it. She got mud pie. It was a regret of hers.

Tonight's agenda- chick flicks. As usual.

Vacating

I am currently in Columbus,OH, at my aunt's house until Thursday afternoon. I am having a wonderful vacation, courtesy of the Knox County Fair which has closed Java Hut half way through the day, doing away with my shift for the week. I am burned like a lobster, as the first day this summer that I forgot my sunscreen, I fell asleep in the chair by the pool in the 90 degree weather. Niiiice, Muffin. But I did have a nice day swimming all afternoon. I also babysat my two cousins for a few hours tonight so my aunt and uncle could go out for their anniversary.

Tomorrow, my aunt and I are going to Easton Town Center and paying homage to the mighty Cheesecake Factory. Also Bath and Body Works.

Wednesday, we are going to the zoo.

Thursday, I'm going home and will try to help at the fair a little bit.

Friday is my very first college visit at Kent State.

And Saturday, I'm going to COSI with Mistie to see to CSI exhibit (what time are we doing that, anyway? Call/text me.)

Well, now off to watch a chick flick with my aunt, as is vacation tradition.

I have nothing blogworthy...

So here you go. Something new to obsess over. The Batman Fact Generator. Eerily similar to that of Chuck Norris', but I like Batman better, I think.

Batman knows why all the rum is gone.

Top Thirty

Yeah. Enjoy those.

Maybe I'll be in a less lazy mood later.

Possibly.

There's no where you can run that Batman can't find you. The Flash knows. He tried.

Teehee..

Oh yeah...some of them may not be the most..errmmm...appropriate? Censorship apparently has not reached all corners of the internet.

I know. Tragic. *gasp*

Camp '08 (Part 1)

Sr.High Camp 2008= AWESOMIZED

I can't really put it plainer than that. I have never been to a better camp than this week. I laughed, I cried, etc., etc. Simply awesome.

I roomed with Rachol, Lori, and Deana. We also were grouped with two other girls from Pataskala, who were just a blast. Deana's friend, Peggy, stayed one night, but her knee gave her some problems and she had to leave.

Our night speaker was Bro. Tim Gaddy (twin brother of former General Youth President) and our morning speaker was Bro. Tim Rutledge. They could not have picked better complimenting speakers. I'm not sure if they planned to or not, but their messages went together incredibly.

Because I feel like it, I'll start with the fun stuff and get to the church stuff in a while(not that church wasn't fun....you know what I mean.....yeah...leaving that alone). This will end up being a multi-post thing, I'm thinking.

At camp we have this thing called Late Night. After church we had things like wild and crazy games and hang time, and Wednesday night was the Talent Show (not that I was able to enjoy THAT all too much. Carolyn knows to what I refer here. I was in tears the whole time. Don't ask. You don't wanna know. If you do, then text me. If you don't have my cell to text me, you don't need to know). Thursday night was Consecration, which was one of the church things that I'll explain later. It was a blast. Kept me laughing constantly.

I must give kudos to whoevers idea it was to open up the pole barn this year at camp. It was pretty sweet. We played dodgeball in there and it gave a lot more space for Rec, too. Yet, the sun (and shade) was still nice, even though it drove people like Rachol and Brookelynn to insanity-

Oh yes, and then of course there was the Dorm Wars. They added another boys dorm this year and they named the dorms. The original was named the Alamo and the new one was Alcatraz (also known as Alcatrash because of the lack of hygiene). Because of the girls having the dorm and hotel, and the boys now having two dorms, we were able to have a little friendly (and gross) competition. For example, the following- a fear factor challenge involving eating pig's feet.

How incredibly disgusting is that?

Off to pack for Defiance. More stories and videos later.
