The Lizness....

has gotz a baby!! Unfortunately, my phone is not allowing me to accept the picture that her mom sent to me of him. Bummer.

***UPDATE***

I gotz one ( a pic, not a baby)

***More Update***

I got my phone to work. He is such a cutie!

I Promised....

It was awesome. We got to DC around lunchtime on Monday. We got a little lost trying to find the Metro station (Shady Grove) from the hotel, but eventually found it and went on our way. Once we got on the train and traveled a while, we got to Metro Center where we met up with Tiffany and her friend, Jessica, and both of their kids, bringing the total number of kids up to 8. We searched around for a place to eat lunch and settled on a McDonald's. We ate lunch and then headed to the Jefferson Memorial. We walked around for a while and I convinced Jennifer that there is a sea monster that lives in the Potomac. I convinced her that the boats out on the water were disappearing (they were docking) and that she shouldn't get too close because the monster would eat her. It worked, and we had no problems with that. The Jefferson Memorial (and a brief trip to one of the sculpture gardens) took up most of our evening, and we decided to go for dinner. I was terrified of Chinatown when I went a few years ago and swore that I would never go at dark. But since it wasn't dark, I was good, and we decided to scavenge for Chinese food. After taking a wrong turn that made us circle the WHOLE block, we ended up finding a little hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, in which we were the only non-Chinese customers. We figured this meant that the food HAD to be good. We looked at the menu and were...umm....interested? For an appetizer you could have cold sliced jellyfish, if you were so inclined. For your entree, you could have intestinal stir fry, snail stir fry, or pork loin with jellyfish. In the words of Rachel Ray, Yum-O. We ended up getting the traditional cashew chicken, sweet and sour chicken, wonton soup, egg rolls, and Dawn got some weird tofu stuff that everyone except for her and Tonya refused to try. The first thing we actually noticed at this restaurant was that they gave you no silverware. Just chopsticks. When we asked the waitress for a fork, we quickly realized that she didn't speak English when she brought us napkins.

The bathroom was just a disaster, too. Tonya had to go to the potty, and when she washed her hands, or rather, when she put soap on them, we tried to turn BOTH faucets, and no water came out. Beautiful. But the food WAS good. Even if the experience wasn't the greatest.

The next day we tried to get out the door by 9 so that we could catch the shuttle to the Metro. This did not happen. Unfortunately. But we got into DC at around 10 and we went exploring. We walked. A lot. We walked up to the Washington Monument. And to the WW2 Memorial. And Jennifer was dying to see the reflecting pool. And we saw the Lincoln Memorial. And the Korean Wall. But not the Vietnam Wall. It was like 1 at this point and we needed to stop for snacks or something because we were dying.

We made our way back to the national mall and went to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. The love of my life, Smithsonian Museum of American History (which has Judy Garland's red shoes!) has been closed for 2 years now for renovations. They open again this fall. But all of the kids found out that there was an Easter Island statue at the museum and for those of you who have seen Night In The Museum, they HAD to see Dum-Dum.

He was quite disappointed that we brought him no gum-gum.

When we were done at the museum, we headed to Union Station, which I less than three, for Lunner. It was 3, and since Brunch is in between breakfast and lunch, Lunner is lunch and dinner. I got a burger, Dawn got a gyro, and the kids got pizza. And then, dessert was wonderful.
After all of this, all 4 kids were exhausted and I had a cramp in my TOE. It was about 4 or 5 when we left, and we made the trip back to Shady Grove.

And when we got done, we all were sore. And whiny.

And then went to Tiffany's for dinner. We had a great time. Jennifer and Chanel hit it off especially well.

We got back to the hotel at about 9 or 10 and crashed, and started home at 10 or 11 the next morning. It was great fun. Because even with that, we still got home at 1 AM Thursday. This had something to do with the stop at the Gettysburg Outlet Mall, and the potty breaks, and everything else. But the ride was still long. And I discovered that I hate the Doodlebops, which I was subjected to mercilessly. No human should have to deal with that.

I promise!

When I get home tonight I will tell you about how great DC was. I have been too busy throwing up, getting lost in the hood, and passing out doorhangers over the past couple days to post anything other than my pictures being put on MySpace.

I promise, there will be great stories such as Mo calling some poor woman on the Metro an old grandma, the chinese restaurant where there were no working faucets, and my having to verify that I was indeed going through the Metro with Tonya because she wouldn't wait for me.

That being said, I have to go have a pity party because in about 20 minutes, my spring break will be over and I will have to get on the bus. This is quite unfortunate. But, 2 months from today I will be done with my junior year and off to camp and other great things for three months. I will also go to Cedar Point a few days before school is over. And this year I AM going to ride the Millennium Force. And drag Ratchol with me. Because she tricked me into going on the Gemini last year, when the biggest rollercoaster I had gone on up until then was a few hours before with John, Mistie, and Garrett and it was incredibly wimpy. So, yeah. She's going to pay.

But, the point of this story was not that she will pay. It is that you WILL get a story. After school. Today.

Great Lessons I Learned This Evening

  1. Alison does not know the meaning of "act natural".
  2. There is not a person at John's house named Katie.
  3. Nor did he order a laptop.
  4. We also cannot call him Johnny.
  5. Rachel does not appreciate prank calls from me and Alison as much as she enjoys making them herself.
  6. Garrett cannot speak ghetto.
  7. Garrett believes he can speak ghetto.
  8. If you get lost in the hood, Garrett will try to speak ghetto.
  9. Garrett will stop speaking ghetto if you throw heavy objects at him.

Completely Ruins It

I have seen Mamma Mia! 2 times on stage. Once when I was 13 and again I got tickets for my 16th birthday. They are now coming out with a movie, which at the beginning I was psyched about because I absolutely love Mamma Mia!, but then I realized that this is going to be a big, big bummer.

When Anne Hathaway starred in The Devil Wears Prada, everyone rushed out to see it. Sales of the book went up, and everyone started raving about what a great author Lauren Weisberger was. I read the book about 2 or 3 years before the movie came out. I knew it was amazing. I was pretty much giddy when they said they were making a movie about it. But from then on, if anyone tried to say they were a fan of The Devil Wears Prada, you were on the bandwagon. I loathed the people who tried to say they were true fans of the book and of Lauren Weisberger in general, but hadn't bothered to pick up a copy of the book until Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci made it cool. They irritated me. And whenever you said that you were a fan of the books, as far as anyone else was concerned, you were on the bandwagon, like them, and your zealousness had no bearing on the situation.

I have a prediction that after Mamma Mia! comes out in theaters in July, there will be a ton of Mamma Mia! fans. That have never seen the musical. That don't appreciate Sam before he was Pierce Brosnan or Donna before she was Meryl Streep.

And that is such a shame.

Too Cute

CORONARIES ABOUND!!!

So, here I am, a normal geekazoid, watching my Twitter.

And there was a Twitter thing, from one of the "Big New Yorkers" who probably mean absolutely nothing to some of you. My dad and I watch some of them on Twitter just because they're awesomized, and usually pretty hilarious as well. The big 3 that I have are Charlie O'Donnel, Fred Wilson, and Caroline McCarthy. One is a Venture Capitalist, one is a social journalist, and one has a startup called Path 101.

Charlie O'Donnell put a twitter out that said that he didn't know most of his twitter followers and to reply with a little about ourselves and maybe a link. I sent mine in, and about had a coronary, being the geek that I am, when I actually received a reply.

I had said that I had joined the Facebook group for Path 101 and was a student. There was also a link to my blog. He replied, thanking me for joining the Path 101 group and told me that if I put up a blog with 10 ways to market Path 101 to students, they would reblog it.

Of course, I'm going to take this and run with it. Duh.

The only thing is....

I know squat about marketing.

I'm definitely going to be picking at my brain for a while.

Ummm..yeah....

So.

No bloggy or pictures for you tonight.

Here's why.

I went to shadow Dawn at work today. And while I was there, some killer exhaustion or something set in and I was throwing up all morning. It was awful. And all of my stuff is still at Dawn's house.

So, there ya go.

If it's any consolation, Michael and Gabrielle don't have their souvenirs yet, either.

I got here...

Bout....15 minutes ago?

I'm sitting at Dawn's puter.

Now I'm going to sleep.

Because I have to get up at 5.

Go me!

Loooong post to follow!

I'm live-blogging here from the beautiful National Mall. Texting a blog is a royal pain but because I didnt bring my laptop, I'm stuck.

I leave you with this.....

So, the next time I post will probably be Thursday night.

I'm not taking my laptop to DC with me.

I am going to beg for a camera to take. So no worries there.

Enjoy the video and happy easter.

See you Thursday!

So far....

I have one bag with some books for my KAP research paper, which I'm not doing MUCH work on while I'm gone, but probably should attempt to look like I'm working on it, as I have to have a thesis when I get back from break and the paper is due April 10th.

I also have a suitcase with clothes and toiletries (isn't that a fun word?) and all that good stuff. I still need to pack my pajamas (which are in the laundry) and my jean skirts (also in laundry).

Apparently, none of the kids know that I am mooching accompanying usefully on this trip, and won't until I load my suitcases in the van tomorrow. That should be fun. Especially because in Sunday School tomorrow because I know that they'll probably ask if I know who it is.

In that case, is it okay for Sunday School teachers to lie to their students?

Why?

I'm getting really sick of the drama that this whole situation is bringing about.

It really gives me a headache.

Kroger brand Ibuprofen is making a fortune off of my pain and suffering.

I think they're the instigators behind all the world's wrongs.

Evil crapweasels.

But, anyway. It's ironic that I'm sick of drama, being the theater sheep that I am. This is not a fun kind of drama. It's the stick-a-gun-in-your-mouth-and-eat-your-lead-kind-of-drama.

No worries. No actual suicidal thoughts around here. Yet.

Impromptu Spring Break

So, I got a call today.

And guess what?

I'm going to Washington DC for spring break.

Yes. That DC. As in my favorite city in the WORLD!!

The last time I was there was August '06, when I went on a missions trip with my youth group (which was then Canton) and had an amazing time, including going inside the White House.

To read about that trip- click here, here, here, and here.

So here's the deal.

I'm leaving as soon as the last "amen" is said on Sunday morning. Changing out of my church clothes and hitting the road. So then, I'm riding to Pennsylvania with 4 kids under 10 in the car (I'm going with Dawn) (P.S. The 4 kids should be SO fun) (P.P.S. I really have no room to complain, though, because I am majorly mooching my way on this vacation) and we'll be there that night. Then we leave early Monday, head to DC and spend the next 2 days there, then head back Wednesday evening.

I'm psyched right now. About as psyched as I can be.

My blond streak is showing....

Yes people. Those are my feet. And two shoes. Different colored shoes. Not even SIMILARLY colored shoes.

I rushed out the door today and apparently one of my red shoes was lying by my black pair.

So I walked along, unaware, going to a Student Advisory Board meeting ( no wonder the principal looked at me weird) and then I happened to look at my feet.

There is a reflex that my Freshman health teacher taught us about. She called it the "oh crap" reflex where you realize something is miserably wrong and you just are frozen for a moment. As I was recovering and assessing this situation, my friend, Veronica, came up to me and asked if I was aware that I had two different shoes. I said-

"Yeah. I couldn't decide which to wear today, so I decided to wear both!"

She actually believed me and congratulated me on my freeness.

Wow.

Fun...We haz it

Dawn moved to our church from Logan not too long ago, and pretty much lives in my backyard. Seriously. She and her husband have an apartment RIGHT behind our house.

So anyway, she joined HOP, and here we are with our beautiful masks.

Why it's good to have money on a bad day....

Because then you go to WalMart and buy Dove. And not cheapo 50 cent bar dove. You buy the big old bar that you have to go to the Halloween/Easter Goody/Baking Aisle for that sets you back $1.47 but is worth it in the end.
See? Problem solved.

I was asleep....

But then woke up with chills and the feeling that I was about to lose my wonderful McD's Vanilla Iced Coffee.

Goody.

Might I add that until today/yesterday (when Mom let me sleep in and skip school because of a horrible earache leaving me partially deaf in my left ear last night) I had perfect attendance all 3rd quarter? This is the last week of the 3rd quarter. And I'm getting sick.

Why me?

GreetingFlix: Worth A Shot

A few months ago (read as: November), a nice lady named Wendy emailed me and asked me if I would be interested in doing a review for a site called GreetingFlix, and in order to do this, she would upgrade my account to Pro, which is normally around $10. Now, personally I had never heard of GreetingFlix, but, when someone offers you free stuff, you take it. Right?

I signed up for the site and uploaded my plethora of photos from the youth group. When I say plethora, I mean I took up half of my EXPANDED allowed storage space with this stuff. It's sad really.

I let it set for a while, and then tonight decided to see what exactly the site had to offer.

Here is a sample of what I created (Note:please do not condemn my use of "freakin'". That would be the templates fault. I'll get to that later)

So, there you go.

Now, my rundown of my likes and dislikes.

PROS:

I less than three the video graphics. It's a nice touch.

I like that they have a fairly good variety of subjects from which to get a template.

I like that they range from serious to funny on the templates, allowing you to create cards for many occasions. These topics include V-day, Father's Day, Mother's Day, New Baby, and just Photo Sharing (which is what you just saw)

CONS:

While there is a variety of subjects, there are very few templates in each subject. And none of them really tripped my trigger or fit with what I wanted to do.

You're limited to usually about 6 photos per piece.

If you don't have a Pro Membership, then you're kind of stuck on what templates you can use.

I can't insert my own sound clips.

In conclusion, GreetingFlix is a pretty cool site. I appreciate the oppurtunity they have provided me to use their site and review it. However, if you really want to do a project that is more pointed, you have a lot of photos, and would like to use your own sound clips, I would recommend OneTrueMedia or RockYou! , but that's just because they suit my uses more.

We're wonderfully weird...

No special occasion. Just way too much time on Ratchol, Alison, and my hands before church tonight.

An update..

My application for Teacher Academy is in the High School Guidance office waiting for my counselor to give it her seal of approval.

We'll see how my ACT's go on April 12th before I make a solid decision on COTC.

Because there is no other substantial bloggy material...

LOL Cats are always funny.

And the Muffin did grin....

I love reading MySpace surveys. Some of my favorite people have hilariously funny answers to questions that make me laugh. Observe-

17. Do you shower every single day?
no...i love smelling like B.O.

22. What would you do if Michael Jackson asked you out?
kindly remind him that i'm not twelve years old

Ok, so there were only two.

I really need to stop posting things that seem humorous in the wee hours of the morning.

It only brings disappointment.

The Gnomes Are On The Loose!!

So, I read this in the news this morning. Apparently, in Argentina, some kids were out around 1 o'clock, talking about fishing, and then the kid, who was playing with his camera phone, saw a creepy gnome on the beach.

All I have to say is, wow.

My PreSenioritis

Senioritis is normally characterized, so I'm told, by slacking, lack of sleep, binge drinking (in some cases), partying, procrastination, and all-night cram sessions.

I am going through PreSenioritis, also known as Oh-dear-God-in-heaven-save-me-I'm-a-Junior- going-into-my-last-quarter-of-being-a-junior Syndrome. This is characterized by flop-sweats, indecisiveness, excessive college brochure delivery, stress, overwhelming feeling, and binge drinking (in some cases). You will be happy to know that I have skipped the binge drinking.

I am currently weighing the options for how I want to spend my Senior year at good ol' mold-infested MVHS. Thankfully, neither of my choices include being at the high school for a full day. Here's my dilemma-

  • Choice A: KCCC Teacher Academy- An awesome program that allows me to get out of MVHS around noon each day, go to the academy, and learn to be a teacher. You pick two age levels that you are interested in teaching (I am firmly against teaching anything above 2nd grade, but could probably learn to live with middle school social studies if I had to) and then the last time around, you can go back to one that you liked, or do something new. You spend a few days in the classroom and a few at a school observing and student teaching.
  • Choice B: COTC- I can go to college and possibly get my freshman year out of the way.
  • Choice C: I can possibly do both.
All three sound awesome, right?

Pros-

  • A: decide if I want to be a teacher, and I earn one college credit along the way; my best friend, Rachel, just got accepted 3 weeks ago.
  • B: I get my freshman year out of the way; it's free
  • C:All of the above.
Cons-
  • A: I honestly don't know if I want to be a teacher. I'm just juggling the idea right now.
  • B: I don't know what I want to go to school for. I'm torn between Early Childhood Education (would probably end up transferring to another school and specializing in Preschool-Kindergarten education, and minoring in Theater) and Business (I would get my certification as a Wedding Coordinator after graduating)
  • C: All of the above, plus the idea that I would have to take college in the evenings, meaning less time to get a job, do homework, etc.
I have no idea what to do.

I sent this to my Video Game Addict friends

Tears from Laughing....

It all started with this picture, which made me laugh so hard that I cried.

Why did it crack me up? I haven't the slightest. It just struck me as ridiculously funny.

I am celebrity...ish....ness

I'm at Dawn's house. The ridiculous white death ended up burying Dorenda's car and we all went out to unbury the car and built snow people. The management of the snow people building was my job- to keep kids entertained while the 13 inches of snow on top of Ren's car (we measured it) was removed. After hunting through the big snow drifts the plow left for snow balls (and losing a shoe, causing us to have to unbury it, along the way) we made a family of snow people which included- Dawn, Jennifer, Ali, Muhammad, Tonya, Elisha, and Nessie.

Before I went out in the snow, bundling up was required. I had 4 shirts, PJ pants, a jean skirt, 2 layers of socks, shoes, two scarves, and a hat on. I looked ridiculous and my hair was a wreck. Dawn took one look, laughed, and said "We have GOT to get a picture of this!"

We intended to take pictures before we came in.

As we finished up our second snow person, Virgil Shipley, photographer for the local newspaper, walked up, camera in hand. He snapped pictures of me, Mo, and Ali working on the snow people.

Yes, readers. Me and my million layer glory are going to be in the news.

This should be interesting.

This Week

I popped my arm out Tuesday. It hurt. Lots. I threw a napkin at Nikki and in the process I heard a large snap. And I felt like crying. And then it popped back in. And my entire theater group burst into laughter. As I tried not to cry. I called Nikki a crapweasel. She threw the afore mentioned napkin at me. And her arm was fine. That crapweasel.

Hilary took Ohio. Boo.

My entire youth group jumped down my throat on Wednesday night for supporting Obama. It was pleasant. Or something.

I have been sleeping on the couch all week due to an unfinished closet and Blogatorium, which rock, but all of the contents of my closet are on my bed. This caused me to wake up at least two days with serious back spasms. Oh goody.

But my week wasn't all that bad....

I presented my play in theater today. It was way too long, but was amazing. Everyone loved it.

I'm wearing the dress tonight. I will attempt to get the promised picture of it tonight.

I got an A on my KAP History Essay Test.

The Kent State Shootings Research is going good. (Note: If you know of anyone with a memory of the shootings, please email or comment me. I am looking for primary sources.)

About the guys

I'm not sure how true any of the background of any of these MySpace surveys are, but apparently a guy wrote this one, and it was actually kind of interesting. So, because I have no blogging material, here's my answers. Feel free to cut an paste. Just leave a comment so I can see how you answered!

WHAT TYPE OF GUY DO YOU GO FOR: It varies. I like a guy who is very nice, very honest. Romantic. Chivalrous. Good looks don't hurt. Intelligence. Funny.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY: He must make me laugh and make me feel comfortable being myself.

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO MEET GUYS: I don't have great experience with this. I don't know.

HOW DO YOU LIKE TO BE KISSED: At all.

WOULD YOU LET A GUY KISS YOU ON A FIRST DATE: Probably not.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY FOR A GUY TO APPROACH YOU: Goofily [is that word?] lol.. I love laughing. (<-Definitely, Alyssa!)

WHAT PICKUP LINE WOULD MAKE YOU GO WEAK IN THE KNEES: Pick-up lines are cheesy. If he does it just to make me laugh, I'd probably be stuck on him immediately. Given that he's not hideous, or a jerk, .....well just see the previous answers.

WHAT PART OF YOUR BODY WOULD YOU LIKE A GUY TO COMPLIMENT YOU ON: My eyes

WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE A GUY TO TAKE YOU ON A FIRST DATE: I don't know. Something fun.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LOOK FOR IN A RELATIONSRHIP: Honesty

DO YOU APPRECIATE INTELLIGENCE:Absolutely. I want to be able to have a nice conversation with someone. Just don't make me feel like an idiot. too much.

DO YOU LIKE "PDA": To a point.

WHAT'S ONE THING THAT YOU'VE HATED ABOUT YOUR PAST RELATIONSHIPS [ONE THING THAT'S MADE THEM BAD]: There was no communication. When he broke up with me, he brought up so many things that had irritated him and that he had let fester. He hadn't told me that they bothered him, and that really hurt that he would not tell me that I hurt him, and then place the blame of the failure of the relationship on me.

WOULD YOU BE JEALOUS IF I HAD A GIRL BESTFRIEND: Speaking as the former best friend of a guy whose girlfriend hated me because of being his bestfriend, and as a girl who has a guy who is one of her closest friends that she can share anything with, I wouldn't. When my best friend's girlfiend would say things about how I was too close to him and how I should back off, it hurt so bad. It was like, "Hey, I was here first, and yeah, I understand your relationship with him is deeper [haha...she didn't really like him....she just used him and broke his heart] and different than mine, but lay off. I care about this guy and I'm in his life too. Just because you fell in love with him doesn't push me out totally" And I did back off, but seriously, I'm not going to shove out the other girl in his life, just because I'm there now.

Live-Blogging From Kenyon

Just a short post to clear my mind of too many facts about the Kent State Shootings and Flower Power.

I'm here in the library at one of the supposedly most haunted places in Ohio. Creepy. Seriously, when the bus drove up the hill to get onto campus I think the temperature dropped about 10 degrees, no lie. That may be because of the altitude, but I like to think it's ghosts, so humor me.

I'm knee deep in a ridiculous number of resources, including 5 books, and 3 articles that are on my desktop presently. I got my official Kenyon College library card today, and have made quite good use of it, despite getting lost in this humongous geek mecca. It's seriously amazing. I less than three it.

So, I should probably make good use of the 2 1/2 hours I have left here to research. But blogging is so fun!!

Ask-A-Techie....

Shana,

At the bottom of your posting window, next to Post Options, there is a little box labeled "Labels For This Post". Click on that box, and type in whatever you want.

Tiffany,

Although I less than three the Calibri font, I will tell you how to change it because I am a good person. Under the "Home" Tab, there are multiple selections you can use as your default. Just go to the Blue and Purple overlapping "A's" and click. That 's labeled "Change Styles". Go to fonts, and I think what you're looking for is "Office Classic"

Dear Readers,

Here's a short video introducing you to the new and improved Blog-o-torium.....

(hint: turn up your volume. I'm sick, very sick, so I talk very quiet....it's a first for me...)

And here are some stills of what you just saw...

The jubilee o' pens....and hot sticks...
The high and holy Lexmark printer....
The entire bookshelf.....

So that's where the action happens, folks....I know your day has been semi-enriched by this little documentary....or not.
